They come out at the first sign of spring, and after winter has departed. They offer you deals that are hard to resist. Remember that old adage, “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”
There are families who travel around communities and just happen to be in your neighborhood doing a job for your neighbor. Don’t be afraid to ask a few questions. Those questions may save you hundreds of dollars in the long run. A few simple tips may discourage the scammers.
Ask for their permanent address. A professional will have a business address, and not work out of their garage. Ask for a written contract that you will not sign until you have read the small print.
Make sure they have a business license, proof of insurance, and be members of the local contractor’s board. Those may be false, so take down the number and investigate. Never pay anyone up front even those who need the money to buy the materials to do the job. Never pay in advance.
They’ll have excuses why they don’t have the paperwork with them, but you can wait until they do, so don’t rush. They’ll say things like, “We’ll only be in the neighborhood for a few days.” If they’re in a hurry, don’t you be.
Then they may say, “I’ve got all the material I need in my truck, I can’t take it back, and I have no further use for it, so I can do your job and save you hundreds of dollars if you allow me to do the job today.”
Scammers like to go where disaster has hit, like a fire that ravished a neighborhood, or a flood. They will promise the world, but rarely deliver. They will hit you when you least expect it. They will promise to mend your roof in a few hours, when you know it will take days for a new roof to be installed.
When you hire a contractor insist that they be specific in written information. Don’t sign anything unless you study the fine print. Get their license number and check them out with the local authorities, and even the Better Business Bureau. Make sure the down payment and other payments are shown on the contract. The contract also needs to specify what work will be performed in your home, the day they will arrive to do the job, and the estimated time that will take them to finish.
Don’t pay them until they have completed the job to your satisfaction.

Stainless Steel in Your Bathroom
Nothing can be easier to clean and look prettier than stainless steel. They are not that expensive depending on the styles you choose, and they are the easiest to replace and you won’t need a contractor. A do-it-yourselfer can complete the job in just a few hours, and your bathroom will once again look modern.
Whether you choose the shiny stainless steel fixtures or brushed stainless steel. Just be sure to buy quality because a good stainless steel faucet will outlast those cheaper imported models. They aren’t easily scratched, and finger prints can be easily wiped off with a damp cloth. The brushed type can be as efficient as the mirror image.
When you want the most modern fixtures in your bathroom, they are usually available in the popular stainless steel. There are shower heads available that will blow your mind. Some sit in the ceiling or can be attached to the wall, and several heads can be installed in a king size shower. Those will need special plumbing changes and in order to do that you may have to tear into the walls to achieve it. Another option would be to hire a professional to help with the job.
There are other stainless steel products to add to your bathroom. Towel racks, shower rods, and even handles placed at strategic places to help the occupants keep their balance. Trash cans, and door handles are additional ideas and they are all available in matching stainless steel.
However you don’t need to completely remodel your bathroom. If you want to keep it simple you can replace the current dripping faucets with the new modern stainless steel. Another thing that will change your bathroom and give it a new look is a gallon of paint to change your color scheme.
Then change the countertop or add shelving to stack towels or bubble bath. You won’t even recognize your own room.
Whether you plan on remaining in your home for several more years, you will still want to impress your guests. Even if you plan to sell your home one of the rooms prospective buyers look closely at is the bathroom. So try to keep your remodeling plans simple without elaborate colors that will turn them away. If your bathroom is small, and you want to add some paint to spruce it up just remember dark colors close in a room so keep the colors light and airy.

Orange County Home Remodeling: Ideas for Your Laundry Room
Organization is the key as you plan your new laundry room, or even when you install new appliances in the old one. Whether the laundry room is hidden from view or can easily be seen by everyone entering your back door. If the room itself is small, it is all the more important to have everything in its proper place.
Shelves help immensely with the organization when you can hide all the laundry paraphernalia, things like soap, bleach, softener that can be kept out of sight. A fairly large table top or shelf can help when it’s time to fold the articles coming out of the dryer. If there’s room for a couple of bins to hold the dirty items ready to wash would also be helpful.
However the most important items are the washer and dryer and if you’re lucky enough to have both there will be no need for a line to hang the clean clothes on in order to dry them. Many people across the world and even those in the country directly south of us don’t have those luxuries that we in America consider them to be a necessity.
When you find the need to replace your appliances, consider buying those that are efficient in the use of water as well as gas or electric. Today front loading machines are very popular but are also more expensive even though they claim to be efficient. One thing to consider in your purchases will be how easy it is to transfer the articles from the washer to the dryer. Many washer and dryer doors can be switched from one side to the other, but not all have that feature.
The modern laundry room situated in a home will in all probability be where the water and utilities are available. Some are closer to the bathrooms, others near the kitchens, and still others may be in the garage, and you may not have that choice. So when your laundry room is in place, try to keep it neat and organized and you will no doubt enjoy utilizing one of the most popular and needed rooms in the house.
Like we said before you are considered lucky if you indeed have a laundry room and your washer and dryer are out of the way even if only hidden behind shuttered doors. So count your blessings, and if there is no room for those two appliances, you may have to pack up the dirty articles and head to the Laundromat.

Swimming Pools Are Not a DIY Project
If you’re planning on installing a swimming pool yourself, you should probably reconsider. There are many parts of planning and constructing swimming pools that should not be left to an amateur. Permits from local governments need to be in place, and they will want to inspect the pool as it is installed, not after the installation.
You have to know where to dig, how deep to dig, and if anything will be in the way of the digging, like gas, sewers, or utility lines that run under your property. Those permits will tell you what’s there. If the only tool that you have is a shovel, just forget about the pool.
The swimming pool contractor will know exactly how and where to dig. They will bring in a backhoe to dig the huge hole exactly as the plans have been designed. The hole they dig will decide the shape, length, and depth of your pool and you’ll want someone who knows his business.
When they are finished digging, they will put the frames for the pool in place, and they will install all the necessary plumbing and electrical circuits that will be necessary to keep your pool in satisfactory condition. That equipment will include the light if you want one in the pool, the heater if you heat the pool, and a vacuum that will be used to circulate water through the filter. In most instances they will install a pool cover to save water from evaporation.
What type of pool will you want? Cement is the most popular, and it will be installed over the forms laid down by the contractor? You know how difficult it is to install a concrete sidewalk in front of your home. The contractor will make sure that the pool is the same uniform thickness throughout the entire pool, and it takes a professional to do it correctly.
Whether you’re having a vinyl pool or cement, the dirt must come up firmly against the outside in comparison to the water on the inside. Otherwise your pool could collapse.
As usual, hire a reputable business that has references. Have a written contract and pay them the required down payment and the pre-approved amounts at intervals after they finish each segment of the job. If the contractor hires sub-contractors record their names and phone numbers and make sure they have been paid before you make your final payment in full when the job is complete to your satisfaction.

Orange County Electrician: Why Hire A Professional Electrical Contractor?
There are quite a few homeowners and even professional individuals who possess a limited amount of electrical knowledge. While having this knowledge is certainly not dangerous, in some cases using this knowledge to try and repair electrical issues around the home or office can indeed be very dangerous.
The electrical setups in homes or any structure for that matter are generally very complicated and those without proper training and extensive electrical knowledge whom try to perform repairs and even new installations are at great risk. Should they avoid electrocution or some other type of injury they still run the risk of completing a job that can cost them more money in the long run because it will be done improperly and put their home or office at great risk of electrical and fire damage.
If you've recently purchased a home, have a remodeling project in mind or have one on the horizon, the first thing you should do is begin searching for professional electrical contractor. There's no shortage of electrical contractors in any area which makes it easy to at least begin weeding undesired contractors out of the picture. Even if you possess a great deal of electrical knowledge it's advisable you hire a professional contractor for the following reasons.

There's no shortage of electrical contractors in any area which makes it easy to at least begin weeding undesired contractors out of the picture. Even if you possess a great deal of electrical knowledge it's advisable you hire a professional contractor for the following reasons.
- Electrical contractors who have been working in their field for even just a few years will be vastly more qualified and experienced to both handle new electrical installations and repairs in your home or office. There's very little chance a professional electrical contractor will make any mistakes nor will they put themselves, you, or your home at risk. Additionally professional contractors, even those that are new to the game, rely on their knowledge and their skill to get the work done properly the first time and get it done quickly as well.
- While the layperson who foolishly engages in electrical installations and repairs might think they're saving themselves money nothing could be further from the truth. Professional contractors will always recommend cost-effective options for getting the job done which is espeicially nice for those homeowners operating on tight budgets. Moreover professionals who purchase the parts for the job you hire them for can save you money because they can purchase said parts in bulk and at a discount.
- Not all electrical problems occur during normal business hours which is why it's a good idea to at least find and even speak with an electrical contractor even if you don't intend to hire them right at the moment. Having a trusted contractor on hand when an emergency occurs in the middle of the night or during a holiday can be a real lifesaver.
- When a layperson or general handyman tackles electrical job there's no guarantee to protect their work and certainly no guarantee to ensure that it gets done properly. All reputable electrical contractors on the other hand offer guarantees that will last anywhere from a few months to couple of years and should problems occur with the job that they complete these guarantees ensure that a homeowner won't lose money they've spent on a recent electrical job.
- There's no good reason for any homeowner or even general handyman for that matter to engage in jobs that are of an electrical nature. While some people may indeed believe the knowledge they possess to be sufficient enough to get them through the project without mistakes, injuries, or risks, the truth is that only professional electrical contractors possess the experience and knowledge necessary to get the job done quickly and safely.

Orange County Home Improvement Contractors: Why You Need One
The remodeling of a home or certain portions of a home can be both enticing and exciting for homeowners. While all remodels and renovations vary in terms of degree, cost, and the time it takes to complete them, it's always a good idea to first consult with and then hire a home improvement contractor that you're comfortable with. While there are most certainly those homeowners who tackle all home renovations and remodels themselves it's a given that very rarely do those projects come off without a hitch nor do those homeowners stay within their budget.
It's very easy for excited and experienced homeowners to both go over budget and make a number of different mistakes during the remodel. Not only are they inexperienced with the tools and materials involved in the remodel or renovation but their inexperience and lack of knowledge often causes them to purchase tools and materials that are expensive and unnecessary. A professional contractor experienced in home renovations and remodels on the other hand knows which materials and tools they will need for their job, which brands to avoid, and where to find these things at discounted prices.
Hiring a home improvement contractor stays homeowners both money and time:
In contrast to the layperson who might procrastinate one day and be excited about the project the next, the professional home-improvement contractor will devise a timetable for their project, stick to it, and complete it on time and as planned. While a homeowner may have to divide his/her time between work, family, and the project, professional contractors focus only on the task at hand because that's their job.
A professional home-improvement contractor will also take care of hiring all of the subcontractors your project will require whereas the layperson who handles such a project themselves would spend considerable hours and even days scouring through long lists of electricians, drywallers, plumbers, etc.
The professionals hired to handle your home improvement project will have a list of reputable subcontractors they can call upon to assist them in their work negating a homeowners need for worry.
A professional contractor will also handle all of the building permits needed for your project. Obtaining these permits is a real hassle for individuals who are inexperienced. The homeowner won't need to figure out what they need in terms of permits nor where or how to get them when they've hired a professional to handle their project.
When a homeowner handles a project themselves there's no guarantee of anything. If they make a mistake in the middle of a project or should the finished products not live up to their own standards there is nothing in place that would refund them their money, allow them to have the work redone properly, or even dispute the work. Hiring a professional home-improvement contractor is the only way to guarantee a guarantee. Home improvement and renovation projects vary in expense but the majority usually cost a pretty penny which is why it's important to make sure that your project is guaranteed.
Handling any home renovation or remodeling project on your own is nothing short of tomfoolery and if you're able to afford a home improvement contractor you really have no good reason not to hire one. Your home is important as is your project and the money you're putting into them. Without a guarantee a homeowner risks losing quite a bit.

Orange County Garage Storage: Making the Garage Storage Area Work for You
Why should your garage storage area be any different than the rest of your home? Put those empty spaces to work, and you won’t be sorry. For one thing you will be able to find anything, even tools, Christmas decorations, cleaning supplies, and anything else that you don’t have room for in your cramped house.
Wire shelving work wonders, and the items on them will be visible, and yet out of the way, and off the floor. Remember you still have to park your car in there. If the eaves right under the ceiling are open, they can still work. Install wire shelving and you will be able to see the boxes that are stacked on them. Remember the area is not covered and it will get lots of dust everywhere.
When you have leftover scraps don’t throw them in the fireplace, stack them away and use them as shelves between the studs. If you don’t want items to get dirty then pack them away in plastic tubs. Then number the boxes, like this #1 #2, etc. Now get yourself some recipe cards and number them as well #1, #2, etc. Now everything you put in box #1 write down the item, and likewise in every other box. This way you don’t lose anything. You file the recipes in a recipe box, where else?
Install used cabinets on the walls for often used items. Often times you can find used kitchen cabinets that have been thrown away in the garbage; you can buy them for a song from a construction company. Just ask them before you need them. Many are happy to have their old dirty cabinets hauled away, and you have a new source for your garage storage. Who knows your wife may want some just like those installed in her kitchen, and you now have plenty of practice.
You could purchase hooks to hang bicycles on, or tools hung on the inside of a cabinet door. If you still want your garage to look as good as it feels you could always hang drywall on the sides and even the ceiling. Then you have a place to really hide all your stuff.
You don’t have to get the job done in one weekend. Plan ahead and know exactly what will work, and do a little bit at a time. Before you know it your garage will be big enough for your car.

Most of the electrical appliances we have in our homes today will not be harmed in an electrical storm when lightning strikes. Our main fuse boxes prevent power surges from happening, but when we use our power sensitive computers that may a different issue. If lightning strikes near your home and the lights in any given neighborhood instantly go off, it would be a good idea to turn your computer or any other appliance you are using, turn them all off if you have that option.
A power surge also happens when the electrical power is damaged in any way. Such as a car hitting the power box out on the street or anywhere else along the lines that run along roadways. Those wires are also victims in a fire.
Electrical power surges happen after the lightning strike, when the power surges back on. Refrigerators and televisions and other appliances might be difficult to shut them down and that is why we use surge protectors where the appliances are protected.
That surge protector on your computer will protect it from losing its memory, but if you’re working on it, save everything and shut it down. Better safe than sorry. Because electrical power is so efficient and is located in almost every single home or business, many others things could cause electrical failure.
We tend to take electricity for granted. Many believe they can install additional power switches where we can plug even more items into one switch. Too many appliances that draw from a single plug can also cause a surge. Our lights may dim when someone is using a drill in the garage; or when any appliance is turned on.
Dimming lights is not a good thing, unless you have a light plug that dims the overhead lights, but this is not the same as power surges. It means power is being pulled away from other appliances within your home. Power is normally stable and constant, and when you notice your lights dimming you need to find out why.
In many instances, you should probably call an electrician. He can find out the cause, and correct it for you. It would be well worth paying him for his time and expertise because that is where fires start in homes, and usually at night.
If you’re in doubt, the very least you should do is to install a surge protector on all appliances. Usually you can use one protector for several appliances, like your laptop computer, printer, desk top computer, monitor, and keyboard. Plug in your cell phones when in use, and unplug them after they’ve been charged.

Orange County Alarm Systems: Alarm Systems Need One?
When a person has had their property broken into you don’t need to tell them that they need an alarm system. Normally, they don’t hesitate, and without delay they will contact a company that will set up an alarm system.
Many systems have silent alarms and the company you’ve hired calls your contact person to see if someone inadvertently set off the alarm. If the alarm company gets no reply they then inform the local police department. When the police arrive at your place of business, they demand to see identification of the person who set off the alarm.
However alarm companies do more than keep criminals away from your property. They also know when other emergencies arise, like a fire, and they will contact the fire department. Many also have a panic button similar to those in banks when problems exist, and when someone hits the panic button, they find out why, then call the authorities.
Like anything else, you need to check out alarm companies. See how long they’ve been in business, are they members of the Better Business Bureau? Check with their competitors, and compare their prices, and make sure they live up to their promises. Then check their references, and a good company will definitely have some.
The alarm company will come to your home or business and set up sensors in sensitive areas. When those are in place, they will be able to tell if a window or door has been opened and the sensors alert the company. They also have motion detectors in case someone has entered through other means than by a window or a door.
For instance someone could come down through the roof, or someone could hide in the business until everyone leaves then come out to do their dirty work. Another means the alarm companies use to maintain your properties, they may set up cameras that work only when someone comes into the cameras scope of vision. The motion caught by the cameras then alert the alarm company who then call the police.
Some alarm companies also deal with local locksmiths to help maintain the security of your property. The locksmith will help when a lock has been broken by fixing or replacing the lock with new keys. The two work hand in hand to secure your property.
No one could protect their own property 24/7, and today’s alarm companies strive to do just that by keeping people in place and with the help of a digital alarm will know instantly when others approach.

Window Solar Screens That Save
The only thing between you and the blast of cold air in the winter or the heat of the summer sun are your windows. Unless you have the new style windows that have double panes with sun shields between the glass, you will have to rely totally on the window coverings you install. But wait; there are a couple of options here that will save you between 10% and 20% and possibly more on your heating and cooling bills. At the same time you will add style with these energy efficient additions, and they will also increase the value of your home.
Plywood interior shutters from Sunburst Shutters are equipped to block UV rays and solar heat without cracking or warping. The solid shutters work to reduce heat transfer and the manufacturer claims that they are 70% more energy-efficient than your traditional wood shutters. The synthetic Polywood material will not fade, warp, or crack in the extreme heat. With exterior wood shutters add weather protection and also give you another layer of security.
Then the shades with the honeycomb within a honeycomb provide two more insulating air pockets. The manufacturer, Hunter Douglas claims the shades are far more efficient when you compare them with cellular shades. They can be customized and have a variety of features, fabric textures, and colors.
Another style of cellular shades has small air pockets between the layers of fabrics and traps air inside and reduces heat or cold flow. Insulated draperies offer another degree of efficiency depending on the fabric used. There are several types and fabric with colors that match or contrast with your color scheme. Liners are also available for the draperies.
Outside awnings also add to the solar heat gain in the summer as much as 77% especially those installed on west facing windows. The best types are custom made with tightly woven fabrics. The lighter colors work best to detract the sun’s glare.
Shades that open from the top of the window give you privacy and protection while allowing natural light to enter, and work well in bathrooms. Light blocking and cordless blinds are favored in children’s rooms where cords could be a safety issue.
There are many different styles, colors, and fabrics to choose from. If you want window coverings that offer a degree of energy efficiency plus privacy check out the online companies that offer both. It might be wise to install more than one type to give you more protection yet.

Orange County Shutters: Wooden Shutters Will Upgrade Your Home
Whether your home is of new construction, an older more sedate home, a townhouse or a condo adding wooden shutters will bring personality and curb appeal to your home. Regardless what style of home when you add wooden shutters they will give your home the crown to make it stand out in the neighborhood.
Custom wooden shutters add the touch that will show that your decorating is complete with the contrasting wooden shutters that complement your home. Whether they do nothing but sit at the side of your windows, they can still be closed tightly against your window, or they can still be partially closed depending on your choice.
They do more than add beauty to your home they also add a shelter against the weather. They can be closed and locked from the inside to provide privacy and security as well. No matter the size or shape of your windows the custom wooden shutters will fit your windows securely.
In the winter when heavy rains, winds, and even snow hit against your home, the wooden shutters shut out the weather, and you’ll hardly even hear as the winds beat against your home.
In the summer you can shut out the hot sun and your home will feel cooler. Or you can partially open them, and you control how much sun gets in. Then when the cool air of the evening comes through you can open them or swing them open and attach them against the outside of your home.
The harder woods are perfect for your wooden shutters; wood like teak, poplar, mahogany, and cedar not only look beautiful, but they retain their natural resistance to the elements. Many prefer to see the grain of the wood and have them finished naturally rather than painted.
There are other options that are available with custom wooden shutters such as personalized carving inlays and hardware, shutter horns, and top and bottom panel extensions that will also provide further weather proofing.
For something that will be so visual from the street, you will certainly want an item that will add beauty, efficiency, and will complement your home. The customized high quality wooden shutters will do all of those things. In addition it will increase the value and will last the entire life of your home.
For best results you may want to contact a professional so the wooden shutters will not only work exactly as promised, but will add the charm that your home has been missing.

Orange County Iron Doors: Where to Find Custom Iron Doors
When you want to install a new custom iron door to your existing doorway choose carefully and have the door installed by a reputable company. A company that understands and installs the door so that it will be secure. You can’t install a new iron door in a door jamb that is not equally strengthened.
With that said, now we can help you decide where to find the custom iron door. There are many companies that may not be honorable as they try to sell you a piece of equipment that will stay on your house for its duration. Ask every company that you encounter to give you references and check their prices as well.
Iron doors are not new, and many want a secure door so that the common burglar can’t get through without a tank. Long ago people could leave their doors unlocked, keys in their cars parked at their curb, but those days are gone. People want protection for themselves and their families. Custom iron doors provide safety.
Custom iron doors can also have beauty. The companies can make your custom door exactly that, custom. It can have your initials on the door and it can look exactly like an expensive carved wooden door. No one will be able to tell that it is an iron door. It won’t look like a door to a prison. The custom iron door will provide your home with not only beauty but functionality. When it’s installed, you can relax that you’ve done everything possible to protect your family and possessions from outside intruders.
To find the local company that proudly sells high quality iron doors, check your yellow pages, and if you can’t find the one you need, go online. There are many companies that provide the information you are looking for. They will tell you what you need to install the door yourself, and they will also provide professionals who will do the job for you.
Beauty and functionality aren’t the only reasons why people buy custom iron doors. It is because of their durability. Whenever you look to replace your current wood door, consider installing a custom iron door that should never have to be replaced.
If the prices seem inordinately high, and they certainly will not be cheap, check the prices of others and see what the going prices are. They may be cheap by comparison.

Have you decided to do the work yourself? You’re going to find every company that sells mainly to contractors in order to save money? If that is your plan, please take a word of advice. You will be money and time ahead if you hire a reputable company to help you make the necessary decisions regarding your home remodeling projects.
For one thing, a company should have a showroom where you can decide exactly what you want possibly they even have pictures to show you before and after results of their customers’ homes, and include referrals as well. If you still aren’t convinced thinking you can go to the nearest Orange County home improvement store and find what you want, then good luck.
To be treated not only with respect, or if you prefer like royalty, the company you hire to do the job will know the best way to get it done. Even if you hire the best company in the world, one of the hardest jobs out there is to try to please a picky customer. So your best bet would be to hire a company that gives you a contract that spells out exactly what you want and tells you how much it will cost.
Not only that but they should tell you the approximate start date and the approximate final date. No one would be able to give you exact dates of either unless they are good fortune tellers. Good luck with that too. After a job is contracted and the contractor is there doing the work, they often run into areas behind walls etc. like if the electricity is sub standard and needs to be fixed. The contractor should then give you a change order with the cost, extra time to complete the new job and a detail of the items to be fixed.
The best companies try to keep their customers informed for instance when a sub-contractor, like a plumber or electrician, will be at their home. If the person will be delayed, the customer needs to be informed in advance if possible. That good company should give you a variety of choices, and at the end of each day’s work clean up their mess.
As you pick the company don’t judge on cost alone. Price cannot be measured against quality. When the job is completed, stand back and let them to the job. It won’t be necessary for you to help them, and if you insist on spending their time talking you’re keeping them from doing just that.

orange county garages, orange county garage organization, orange county garage storage, orange county garage flooring, orange county garage epoxy flooring, orange county garage shelves, orange county garage doors, garage organizersGarage Storage Is the Key To a Better Looking Garage
Whether storage is your goal for a better looking garage, or you just want to hide the junk. Your garage is probably the biggest room in your house whether attached or detached. Many would rather have games like ping pong instead of a car parked in their garage. No matter the reason your garage could be the very best place for those large items.
Traditionally garages were built to park our vehicles out of the hot sun and weather. Many fathers convert theirs into a workshop, while moms want a place to keep things because there’s no more room in the house. When you organize your garage you should be able to do both, a storage area and a workshop.
There are companies that their only business is to organize your garage and/or closet space. They have prefabricated storage shelves and cabinets that get every single item off the floor and into their proper place. Even bicycles, tennis rackets, bats and gloves will have their rightful home.
You don’t have to spend hundreds to have the storage units built. Sit down and draw out a pattern that you can follow, and start simple. Has your garage already got drywall on the wall and ceiling? You’re in luck, your job is already half done. Pick one wall where your storage area will be and the area should be between one and two feet wide, and as long as you want. If it is the length of the entire garage, you may want to add a top shelf for those items you don’t need every day.
Then screw 2x2 struts to each wall stud. Snap a chalk line to align the tops and drill holes into the struts to avoid splitting them. If you use six foot struts, you can use the excess to build attachments. You can use ¾” plywood for the shelves, and either build or buy metal shelf brackets to hold up the shelves. Plumber’s hooks that are designed to hold pipes could be useful to hang items; they should cost less than $1.00. Buy ten foot lengths of vinyl gutter and attach a few of them on your struts. These are not expensive and you can use them to hold smaller items.
Don’t stop at the shelves, cover the existing floor. You will be amazed at the different uses you will find for your garage, and you will even have room for your car.

Everywhere you look today you are warned to save energy before the energy runs out. You are told that solar and wind energy is the way to go, however they are both very expensive. What choices do you have as you want style in your homes, but also want to be energy efficient? Your windows should be one of the first places you could look to do just that.
Custom interior shutters are one of the most beautiful and also extremely efficient to help you meet your goals. The beauty of the wood of your choice fits in every décor. The shutters can fit any window even those that cover from ceiling to floor. The folding shutters can swing open or close firmly, and the louvers can be slanted to either allow light to enter or close for privacy. You’ve seen those ‘Warnings’ shouting ‘Danger’ when you buy new electrical appliances with tags that warn us not to remove them. The warnings are everywhere where electricity is used. Electricity is so common in our homes today that we don’t even consider the danger when using a product. We flip a switch and rarely if ever does it not perform as we expected. Homes that are not yet ten years old may not be suited to all the needs of the modern family.
In the past there may have been two outlets in each room. Today you need an outlet on every wall in every room. From computers to toasters, and refrigerators to irons and they all need electricity to function. So what do we do when we find that we blow a fuse every time we turn on too many appliances at one time? Actually there are no more fuse boxes, but we have a panel located outside our residences that again all we have to do is flip that switch.
Have we become lazy? Is it too much trouble to upgrade our home so the circuits will be able to handle all our needs? If we could really understand electricity, we would get in touch with an electrician as soon as we realize that our home’s electricity needs upgraded. Those old wires and panels need to be replaced before they become over heated and cause a fire. Our very life may be at stake.
Instead of trying to do the job yourself hire a professional electrician. Have those outlets upgraded. See that all the existing outlets are changed; make sure they have a ground element attached. Have the pro install new phone jacks, and replace all the outdated toggle switch with new dimmer switches so you can even adjust the level of light as your needs change for each room. Have him install an outside outlet for use for those electrical tools. Then have the pro install a new thermostat that is programmable and will be able to lower your utility bills.
There are things that you can do to protect your home and your family to lower your utility bills. Get rid of extension cords. Train yourself and your family to turn off lights and appliances when they are not in use.
Then remember those danger warnings. Electricity is a wonderful part of our lives however when you don’t take the proper care when using it remember those warnings are there for a purpose. Now sleep well!

A few words of caution, when you find the need to hire a contractor or service professional and if they claim to be bonded, licensed, and insured insist that they show you proof of the licenses, and keep copies of them to protect yourself. Then check the licenses out to make sure they are still in effect.
Several states do not require a person be licensed if the job they are doing is below a certain amount.
Also if the company you are hiring uses sub-contractors, make sure they have been paid before you give them the final payment. This is very important because if the contractor does not pay the sub, the sub can come back and sue the homeowner for the money even though you paid the contractor that part of the job. After the job is completed you should insist on a signed release from all sub-contractors. This is not necessary when a person is on the payroll of the business.
As for the insurance part, if the professional does not have insurance, you will be obligated to pay for all expenses if the person is hurt on the job. Insurance companies provide service professionals with the proper information naming you as the homeowner and that they guarantee that the contractor is in good standing.
Before they step one foot on your property to begin the job, have a contract with the firm’s name clearly printed at the top with the name, address, phone numbers, license numbers, and workers compensation number.
The contract needs to include the work that will done, and dollar amounts, a start date and approximate date for completion. Payment schedule should include the start, at least one mid payment like when material is delivered to your home, and the final payment when the job is completed to your satisfaction. Never pay a person or company in full before the job begins, however they usually ask for $1000.00 or 10% which ever is less. Workers Compensation insists on this amount.
Never write a check or pay cash to the person doing the job. The check should be made out to the company, never an individual. In today’s world a small contractor may not have the funds to pay for materials, but has met all the above requirements. If this is the case, you should ask for a receipt of the materials purchased and pay for that amount after the material has been delivered to your home.
Last but certainly not least, insist on references, and check them out. Do your homework, and expect all the contract promises.
